Growing from a Seed
Propagation of
king sago palms is either by seed or by removal of basal
offsets, also known as “pups.”

To grow from a
seed:
-
Soak seed in water for
several days.
-
Remove the red skin, but
leave the white hard seed
coat.
-
Seeds can be planted
immediately or can be retained in a cool dry
place.
-
Plant seed sideways with
only the top edge exposed.
-
Seed
should be planted in well-drained
soil.
Soil should be
kept moist, but not soggy.
-
Although the seed will
normally germinate in three to nine months, it
may take three years or more to reach the bulb
size of 1” in diameter.
